2018 Day on the Hill - State Capitol Bldg - Tuesday!

with... See Agenda Various

THE Day for Landlords across the state to unite with each other, our lobbyists, and the Iowa Association of Realtors. This is OUR DAY to make a grand showing for support of our Residential Rental Property Industry in Iowa!

Annual Landlord, Prop Mgrs, RE Entrepreneurs Day on the Hill – February 6, 2018

Phase 1 begins:
Room 304 Opens for meet & greet at 8:00am. Out by 11:00.

Rental property owners, managers and stakeholders - heads up!  This is our time to encourage legislators to support our issues.  On this one day each year, our presence must be felt!!!

Phase 2 begins - 12:00 - Lunch & Meetings with Legislators
Our IARPRO-PAC fund contributions help reduce the amount of time legislators have to spend raising campaign funds, yet they must hear from their constituents to know which bills our industry needs.

Time to go meet with legislators.

A few of the below bills currently before the General Assembly which may be of interest to our stakeholders.

HF 2001 A bill for an act relating to service dogs and assistive animals in residential rental property, providing for landlord remedies to remove dogs and animals, and providing penalties for misrepresenting an animal as a service dog or assistive animal.
HSB 542 An Act relating to the statute of limitations period for executing judgments on claims for rent.  (Passed out of HJ Sub Committee 1/26/2018).
HF 2062  An Act exempting specified real property owners from electrical and plumbing licensure requirements.
  And more ...!!!

There will be time to meet with your legislators.   It’s best to let them know, in advance, that you’ll be there.  Ask them for either a specific appointment time, or a general range that would work best to meet with them.

If you can break free for a full day that would be great, but we hope every member will come for several hours.  Our voices need to be heard and appreciated at the State Capitol!

We will be providing an information kit that includes upcoming legislation, our position on it, and how to ask your representatives to work for you. We expect to send this to you by email, and we'll have paper copies that day.

  Overall time table:
8:00 Informal start time
9:00 Formal Start
10:00 Special Session with Legislators
12:00 (or before) adjourn and clear Room 304
Meetings to continue throughout the day as you have them scheduled.
